May the record show that this is a blog entry by DIANE - possibly my last, but here goes.
Our neighbors think our porch is 'done' but unfortunately, it's not. After purchasing 3 different lighting possibilities, we've finally found the right style, right size and color. It was painful, but we made it through it. First set were installed by an electrician, only to be removed 2 weeks later and replaced by our neighbor once we got the right size and color to match the new railing.
Now for railing issues..... The 'measure-person' didn't wait for the posts to be wrapped, so all sides had to be trimmed in order to fit. Then the 'installer-guys' (aka Jose-A & Jose-B) came and drilled holes in the wrong spots before taking the time to understand where they were designed to go. Once they discovered the problem, the owner was called, our contractor was called and their decision was to go ahead and install since it was too late to put them on the correct step - and maybe 'the owner' (that would be me) will think it's ok. Unfortunately, it wasn't "ok" so their next step is to remove the railing from the steps, jack-hammer the two steps and the lower landing, concrete company gets to come and re-form, pour - then let it cure and THEN the railing-installer-guys will return (with a brain this time we hope) and drill new holes in the top/porch level and in the bottom step.
The correrct position is to have the railing up one step making it so the bottom post doesn't stick 6 inches out into the sidewalk. Luckily we haven't done much to fix the landscaping, because we know the cement folks will once again use the planter area for their dump.
Luckily, now that everything else is done, including gutters, it's fun to sit outside and enjoy the new space.

Congrats on the new porch! It looks great! Hopefully the railings will get figured out without too much delay.

Diane, blogging is fun, with all your talents, I can't believe you aren't a natural. Don't make it your last entry. BTW, isn't it crazy when things that should be so matter of fact, take on a whole different view? The porch does look great..can't wait to see the decorations for Halloween!

WOW Looks great. A good friend of mine just finished her porch and we went and sat on it last week. What a fun experience and fun to wave to all the neighbors. I had forgotten we have crickets and june bugs....(Why do June Bugs come in sept now??? Global warming?)
